Should I buy this Sig Sauer P226?

This Sig P226 S is at a LGS here on the coast, and I'm considering it hard.

I have no desire for a plastic Sig, based on the horrible experience I had with my one and only Sig pistol, which was a P250. It was so bad, I basically swore off anything that said "Sig" on the slide, but I've kind of always liked the steel frame guns.

Based on where I live, I dont' buy blued guns if at all possible, and stainless Sigs don't show up too often that I've seen.

I don't know anything (and can't find much online) about the "S" suffix. Anybody know what the P226 S has different from the standard P226?

Asking price is $749, but they may come down, and often will eat the tax if paying cash. Comes with hard case, and 2 mags. Does that seem fair?

Opinions? TIA

Everything I've found said a sport model then on the second page they are saying the sport was never imported to the US and it is actually a "That is an X-Five Allround. Its definitely an X-series gun based on the rear sight being pinned. "

If I were in a DA/SA mode I'd buy it.

There is some confusion as to what the S really means.

I just noticed, it's a .40 cal. If I could get the price down so I could reasonable convert it to 9mm, I'd do it. I'm not a .40 kind of guy. But, I do like SIG's and that satin nickel (stainless, electro-chrome, whatever) is pretty.

I would jump on if I had the $$ just because it dosen't have a rail.

I have a Sig p226 Navy (blued not stainless, and also without the rail). I also have several 1911's, a Beretta 92F, a S&W Model 10, a S&W 910, and several other revolvers and automatics in both full and compact sizes, from .22 to .45. I think my p226 would be the last to go if for some unknown reason I'd have to divest myself of handguns. I say go for it.

you may be asking the wrong question! Try
Why shouldn’t I buy this sig?
Makes you look
Intellectual and objective, this is great cover with the boss lady. Lay it out there thick, come up with at least one, possibly two reasons you shouldn’t , just remember to have a better reason to buy it so it sounds like your really thinking it over on both sides.
Cause we all know it will be biased from the beginning .🥸

I own one in 9MM, the exact model. The "U" not "UU" in the serial is made in Germany. Those are limited runs, thats a steal at that price. Check out the buffer system and trigger, they are not common 226's. P.S. The "S" does not refer to it being stainless, there are blued ones as well. I'm guessing its for sport or something. These are the precursor to the X-Five competition guns. Note the rear sight and how it's milled into the receiver. That's. a life long gun, yes it's heavy but it will shoot very well.

Twang, you have more options than you may realize. I didn't think about this in my earlier posting, but here goes.

Most recent (after early 2000's?) Sig P226s aren't blued. That went away when they quit using the folded slide construction and switched to milled. I'm pretty sure all the milled slides are stainless, with whatever coating they used. They can be bead blasted and will go back to stainless, if you really want to. Their finishes are pretty resistant to wear and corrosion (Other than the early Legion Series, they wore pretty badly, but still didn't corrode.)

Most P226 frames are alloy, so no problem there.

Here's a pretty good explanation of the various Sig finishes.
