SCSW 4th Edition of 2016 calls for a generic value of;
1500-ANIB
1100-Excellent
850-Very Good.

One of 37 shipped in 1978.
This is where it gets odd... as the 3rd Edition of the SCSW book relates this about the .38 Chief's Special Target model and those shipped in 1978...

"1978: Shipment of Model 37"

And that's all it says!... Which is a reference to the Model number shipped and not the quantity shipped.

I cross checked the 3rd Edition listing for the S&W Model 37 Chief's Special Airweight and no mention of these are found there.

Yep.
I have had several 4" at one time or another but can't find one now, guess I gave it away
Bill... the 4" Combat Masterpiece is very nice too!!! ;)

Marty... Nope... don't have that one in 3"... wish I did!!!

But I can show you this Model 36 "kinfolk" here... a S&W Model 34-1 blued with a 4" barrel... the 22/32 Kit Gun in .22LR caliber... :)

And the only Model 36 as I can show is this one... a 36 "no dash" Chief's Special in blued finish with a 1 7/8" barrel as I bought from our very good MSGO member Beasleydano... in the bottom of this photo...

Nice .22 Mr. Cliff.
I have a "pre-model 34" Kit Gun with a flat-latch. No clue how old it is, only that it's before 1957-58. I wear it on my side when squirrel hunting.

That "Model" 37 reference is an error. The SCSW is a great book, but it's not perfect. ;) Top of the page, 1st bullet point, is about these.

Y'all are making me wish even more that I had kept that 2" model 12 I had in the early 70's. :(

Hoot G... thanks for pointing out that error in the book. Hey, I went back and found that 1st bullet point you mentioned... gee, I cleanly overlooked that information earlier!

For those without this reference book, here's the part that Hoot G. is talking about...

"Although considered discontinued as of 1975, 37 were shipped in 1978 with 2" barrel and square butt; serial number prefixes in 933J - 936J range."
I'll opine that with a book containing so many varied and complex references, it might be nigh impossible to 100% "proof read" such a work prior to any printing... but then again, the 3rd Edition hardcover was printed in China too. That likely added another layer of proofing complexity.
